This week in the WA, we’re talking to Anna Burke about exploding genres and subverting tropes. While tropes can be handy, and who doesn’t love a good friends-to-lovers romance, sometimes a writer needs to step out of the norm and explore their boundaries.

Margaret Atwood does this beautifully in her collection “Stone Mattress”, a book of sometimes-connected short stories that dabble in speculative fiction, human insight, the vagaries of aging, and what happens when a woman gets a chance for very cold revenge.
We love this collection and highly recommend you check it out if you’re interested in learning how to explode and explore genres and tropes yourself.
