Inside the Writing Academy: Luci Dreamer

Hi, my name is Luci Dreamer and I am a self-published author.

My love of writing goes back to elementary school where I was always the last one to put away my writing journal after lunch. In high school, I enjoyed writing short stories and poems for our school’s literary magazine. It wasn’t until I started writing fanfic though that I thought, perhaps one day, I could become a published author.

Last year, at the wise age of fifty, I published my first novel called Heart of Gold, which is the first in a collection of historical fiction books called The Heart Series. I have since gone on to publish two other full-length novels, a novella, and a short story.

My upcoming novel, The Burden of Happiness, is a departure from my other books. It has taken me over ten years to write and in that time, I’ve gone through a lot of emotional changes, and the book has gone through many revisions because of it. But I never gave up on the story, even though it was quite difficult to write as it deals with some heavy subjects. I felt that it was not only important to finish, but important to publish it. Here is the synopsis:

Sarah Leeds is haunted by horrible events in her past that have left her frozen in time when it comes to connecting with other people. She would rather go through life with minimal interaction than learn to open up and trust others; keeping her emotional scars in the front of her mind so she won’t get hurt. When a visit back to her hometown doesn’t bring the answers or closure she’s yearned for, she wonders if she’ll ever be made whole again.

While in town Sarah meets Kate, a professor at the local community college. The instant connection she feels with Kate confuses and scares her, but it also gives her a glimpse of a life she wished she could have. Will Sarah finally find it within herself to conquer her fears and pursue the life she’s always wanted but thought she could never have?
